Bespoke and hand crafted in Sweden
A traditional timber building is rather like a person prepared for weather.
You need strong boots to hold you off the ground, a robust body with strong lungs to breath and a big hat to protect you from the rain.
Shokk&Awe design follows these principles.
Bespoke and hand crafted in Sweden
A traditional timber building is rather like a person prepared for weather.
You need strong boots to hold you off the ground, a robust body with strong lungs to breath and a big hat to protect you from the rain.
Shokk&Awe design follows these principles.
Boots
Traditionally timber barns were built off the ground to deter wild creatures and allow air flow around the building. Our sauna lodges sit off the ground on natural stone or concrete piers.
Body
Made from solid, Swedish iron pine timbers with hand axed corner joints. All angles push the rain away from the walls. No two joints are the same but they fit like a glove. This traditional Viking craft sets us apart and has to be seen to be appreciated. The outside timber can be left to silver naturally over time or we can carbonise the timber to charcoal black, sealed with oil.
Historically smoke sauna doors were very small to retain heat. This has inspired our smaller than usual door design. Originally saunas had no windows just air vents to let the smoke out, today we like an outside vista so expansive windows are used.
Shokk&Awe’s design is a protective cocoon with a large vista window. Brits who prefer a little modesty have the option to hang a slatted screen in front of the window so they can’t see in, but you can see out.
Inside the walls are the raw hand planned timbers of the building structure. Benches and ceiling cladding are made of aspen or cedar.
Fired by a Huum stove, like a big lung air is drawn over the stove enveloping you in steam as it escapes through the top corner air vent.
For an authentic alpine hay sauna add Shokk&Awe’s hay rack. A hay sauna makes you sweat and smells deliciously of alpine meadow.

Hat
Our hat is a distinctive utilitarian design, the top angles of the wall are clad and the roof has a defined overhang to protect the timber building.
You have a choice of finishes from a simple Corten steel to a grass roof.
Cool it
When you need to cool down there’s a plethora of cold plunging and wild swimming options available to you.
We will work with you to find the best option whether that be a steel stock tank, natural swimming pond or a simple shower.
Unique to Shokk&Awe we have developed a naturally filtered plunge pond that’s landscaped into the earth alongside your sauna.
Planning
Depending on size and location planning may or may not be required.
Our design is traditional and authentic which suits country and historic/listed buildings.
Size & Cost
Each sauna is unique but follows Shokk&Awe’s design and craft principles.
We start with our classic 2.4m x 2.4m square sauna lodge which is ideal for 4 bathers but can seat 6 snugly.

Process
Our team will meet with you to survey and define the design brief. Designs are then prepared for your approval. Each lodge is bespoke, built in Sweden where every piece is numbered and dismantled for transportation.
Delivered direct to site Shokk&Awe’s installation team will be there to rebuild the sauna lodge in your space as if it has been there for ever.
Alternatively, the lodge can be premade, transported and craned into position.
