Hackney Outdoor Sauna Build
Clapton is a vibrant district in East London, blending rich history with modern multicultural energy. Google “sauna” and you’ll most likely end up in Hackney, there’s public saunas opening up everywhere.
A collaboration with www.hannahstantonlandscapes.com and planting designer Christopher Raeburn, Shokk&Awe we were asked to build a sauna hidden in a mid-victorian terrace back garden. The challenge was to off load the large sauna packs onto a nearby London street then carry each timber across a neighbor’s garden and over a wall.
Set in the beautiful naturally planted garden the sauna stands on Scottish stones. Wrapped around an established birch tree, you step onto decking with a sunken cold plunge tub. The result is a wilderness sanctuary hidden in the heart of London’s Clapton where the young family can enjoy the hay sauna and cold plunge.
