Devon Sauna Build, Gstaad

Our lovely client Jessie is rewilding her estate in Devon. Bringing life and soul to the project is a small natural swimming lake fed from a local spring. At the first site visit Tom met with Jessie and her team to see where the sauna could sit next to or counter levered over the lake. Our saunas sit off the ground on natural stones so Tom came up with the idea of extending a shallow pool from the lake. Positioning the large stone piers in the water creates the illusion of the sauna sitting out of the lake. This simple idea Jessie thinks has made the project magical.

Jessie tells us she recently enjoyed a sauna with four friends being able to comfortably lay down in the 3m space. It’s perfect to relax by the fire peacefully on your own, our socialise with up to eight bathers.

It’s great seeing how a new owner personalises their sauna, in this case a rustic changing shelter has been built on the back and a shower placed on the side wall.

Jessie can’t believe how special the experience of the Gstaad sauna is, sitting out of the lake with the beauty of brushed timber grain on your hand and the warm sent of larch greets you inside.

To start with the sauna is purely for personal use but over time may become a commercial venture. Who knows, it may become part of the Shokk&Awe Sauna Club…
